Paul Holmes

John Paul Holmes, Jr. is a 1963 graduate of the University of Georgia where he received a BBA degree and lettered 3 years as a tackle and was voted the Bulldogs Most Valuable Lineman his senior year.

Paul was one of the founders of Life of the South Insurance Company.  Following the sale of that company last year, he joined his son, John, and Frank Sutton, Jr. as a Director of their company, Securitas Financial Services.

He served as the 2006 Chair of the Georgia Chamber of Commerce which is Georgia’s largest and most influential pro-business organization.  He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Georgia Chamber of Commerce.

Paul has been involved in many state and local organizations including:

  1. member of the first Leadership Georgia class in 1972.
  2. former Jasper County Commissioner.
  3. has chaired Jasper County Economic Development.
  4. served on Boards of Griffin Technical College and Georgia College & State University.
  5. former board member of Georgia Bankers Association.
  6. received an Outstanding Alumnus Award last spring from Terry Business College at the University of Georgia.
  7. currently serves on Board of McIntosh Bancshares, Inc.

Most recently, Governor Sonny Perdue announced Paul would be an At-Large Representative to the State Board of Technical and Adult Education which oversees all the state’s technical colleges.

Paul lives in Monticello where his wife, Susan completed her 12th and final year as mayor of the city of Monticello.  Susan began on January 8th, 2007 as State Executive Director of the Farm Service Agency/USDA.  Paul and Susan have three children and eight grandchildren.
