    TCSG - "On the Boards"

August 1st, 2009

Welcome to the new Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) Facilities Management “On the Boards” project information web site!

TCSG is very excited and pleased to provide information to the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) community of Georgia regarding the many upcoming as well as ongoing building projects in the TCSG system.

TCSG is experiencing the largest capital improvement expansion in the system’s 25 year history.  With nearly forty active or soon to be active projects at our 28 colleges in the system and enrollment increases averaging 15% across the state, it is clear great things are happening at TCSG!

We are looking for AEC partners who understand our mission, which is to provide the most highly trained technical work force for the businesses and citizens of Georgia.    TCSG is consistently ranked at the top of technical and two-year educational institutions across the country.  We educate and award degrees in robotics, medical sciences, aeronautics, high performance automotive and computer sciences in addition to the traditional technical and continuing educational programs.

Our students, faculty and communities demand and deserve the highest quality facilities in which to provide the educational programs necessary to serve the state of Georgia and keep TCSG on the leading edge of technical education in the nation.

Our new facilities must be carefully conceived, designed, constructed and just as importantly maintained now and into the future.  Flexibility of spaces is critical as the needs of each institution change over the course of 20, 30 or even 40 years.  Careful thought will be required with regard to materials, specifications and long term maintenance.  We will also be building a system data base of physical plant information that will be constructed around AutoCAD Revit 2010 building information model (BIM) software.

Energy efficiency is now the second most important requirement immediately after programmatic needs of the college at every project we construct going forward.  As a system, we are keenly aware of the impact our campus facilities have on the environment, the people who work and study in them every day, and on the system’s bottom line.  Every new building we construct will begin with a goal of attaining the LEED silver certification.

We will be engaging professionals who are not afraid to ask “what if?” Cost is always a factor in construction, but it should never be the deciding factor of what can or cannot be achieved.  We are seeking AEC partners that are not afraid or hesitant to do research or go the extra mile to deliver the quality level, flexibility and energy efficient facilities across the state that will keep Georgia competitive nationally.

If your organization can demonstrate its ability, experience, expertise and the positive attitude we are looking for, then we invite you to join our TCSG team.

Below you will find links to “Future Projects” that have been approved by the state legislature and “Current Projects” that are in the design process currently and will be out for construction bids shortly.  “Construction Projects” are those that are currently under construction across the state.  These links will provide general information about the project, critical dates as well as contact information.

We look forward to working with you to keep Georgia working and competitive.

Thank you,

Rob.
