Commissioner Appoints Kathy Love as New President of Savannah Technical College

Atlanta – Technical College System of Georgia Commissioner Ron Jackson today appointed Dr. Kathy Love as the new president of Savannah Technical College.  She begins the new position on January 1, 2009.

Love is currently the president of Flint River Technical College in Thomaston.

“Dr. Love is an exceptional leader and a gifted educator who has devoted her entire career to Georgia’s technical college system,” said Jackson.  “Her long experience as a proven leader and administrator will ensure that Savannah Tech continues with its solid growth and great record of responsiveness to the coastal region’s workforce and economic development needs.”

Jackson’s selection of Love was approved today by the state board that governs the Technical College System of Georgia during their monthly meeting at the TCSG’s Atlanta office.

“I’m honored to be selected to serve as president of Savannah Technical College,” said Love. “I know that I will gain as much from this experience as Savannah Tech will gain from me. I look forward to helping the college continue to be a key player in the economic development of its service area."

Love has been the president of Flint River Technical College since 2002. She was the vice president of instructional and student services at Middle Georgia Technical College from 1994 to 2001 and vice president of administrative services at South Georgia Technical College from 1990 to 1994.  She began her career in technical education in 1986 as the chairperson of the computer information services department at South Georgia Tech.

She has also served as the interim president of Central Georgia Technical College.

Love has a doctor of education from Northcentral University in Prescott Valley, Arizona.  She earned her education specialist degree in education leadership from Columbus State University in 1994.  She also has a master of science in business administration and a bachelor of science in computer science, both from Georgia Southwestern State University.

Throughout her career, Love has devoted much of her spare time to active involvement in civic, business and charitable organizations in the communities served by her colleges.

Last year, Savannah Technical College enrolled 7,582 students in its certificate, diploma and degree programs.  Many more students took part in the college’s adult education, continuing education and workforce training programs.
