Columbus – The outstanding work of the Muscogee County Public Schools adult education program has earned it the distinction as the grand prize winner of the state’s 2008 Literacy Awareness Campaign. A celebration luncheon and award ceremony will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2008, at the Tillinghurst Adult Education Center at 514 Morris Road in Columbus. Media is invited to attend. The competition and award is sponsored by the Technical College System of Georgia’s Office of Adult Education. Dr. Freida Hill, the deputy commissioner of the Technical College System of Georgia, will be on hand to present the award and honor the program. She’ll also fulfill her promise to personally serve ice cream to the winning center’s staff and faculty. The Literacy Awareness Campaign is a statewide competition that encourages teambuilding and collaboration among the state’s adult education, GED testing and Certified Literate Community programs. Participants were scored on their promotion of adult education through fundraising activities, local literacy events and community partnerships with schools, civic organizations, and businesses. The Muscogee County Adult Education Program is a five-county program for students 16 years of age or older who have withdrawn from a regular high school program. ### |
