Atlanta – A huge crowd of legislators and state leaders filled into the Georgia Freight Depot in Atlanta on Tuesday, January 30, to take part in the Technical College System of Georgia’s second annual “Taste of the Technical Colleges.”
Each of the system’s 34 technical colleges, including (YOUR COLLEGE), was featured in the event that showcases the very best in technical education programs for the members of the General Assembly. It capped off a day that began with both the House and Senate passing resolutions declaring January 30 as “The Technical College System of Georgia Day” in the State of Georgia.
Technical college presidents, staff, faculty and students greeted the state legislators while exhibiting a variety of their college offerings, including diploma, degree and certificate programs in Georgia’s strategic industries like healthcare, aerospace, life sciences and agribusiness. Food was in no short supply either, with a grand buffet compliments of the chefs and students from the 11 state technical colleges that offer culinary arts programs.
“We’re not your daddy’s old trade school anymore. This is the new age of technical education, and our legislators certainly saw that again tonight,” said interim DTAE Commissioner Ron Jackson. “We’re proud to show the quality of a Georgia technical college education and that our colleges provide an exceptional rate of return on the state’s investment.”
