Atlanta – The state board that oversees the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) has presented Oconee County resident and Greensboro businessman Harold Reynolds with its 2007 Charles A. Harris Award for Achievement. The award is given annually to a current or past member of the TCSG board who has demonstrated exemplary service to the board through their dedication to technical education, adult literacy and workforce development. The award’s namesake was an original member of the board who was influential in the growth and prominence of the technical college system. Reynolds was a member of the TCSG board from 1993 to 2006, and served as the board’s chairman from 2004 to 2005. He’s currently the CEO of BankSouth in Greensboro. His past endeavors include positions as the president of Reynolds Plantation on Lake Oconee, general manager of the Greensboro Lumber Company, and as a developer with Deer Run, Inc. The award was presented Tuesday night in Atlanta by Carl Swearingen, the chairman of the TCSG state board, during the technical college system’s annual Leadership Conference. “Harold Reynolds is an astute businessman who understands just how vitally important technical colleges are to the development of Georgia’s workforce in the global economy,” said Swearingen. “Every college in our system, and every student who has passed through our doors, is the beneficiary of his leadership and unbridled passion for technical education.” There are 33 colleges in the Technical College System of Georgia. Last year, more than 155,000 students enrolled in credit courses at those colleges. The TCSG also administers the state's adult literacy programs and Georgia Quick Start, an economic development program dedicated to workforce training. ### |
