High School Equivalency Options

Welcome to the home of the official Georgia High School Equivalency (HSE) program through the Technical College System of Georgia Office of Adult Education. An HSE is an alternative to a traditional high school diploma that demonstrates the same level of knowledge and skills as a high school graduate. In Georgia, you can earn an HSE by passing the GED® test or HiSET® exam, which are nationally recognized high school equivalency tests.

The GED and HiSET are computer-based tests that are available through designated testing centers and can be taken in-person or online. The exam can be taken in either English, Spanish, or a combination of both. Individuals can take the tests all at once or one test at a time. You can find the test center nearest to you on the GED/HiSET Testing Center Interactive Map.

The State of Georgia offers free testing to eligible Georgia residents to cover the cost of GED® test and HiSET® exam fees through the HOPE High School Equivalency Examination Grant.

Georgia offers free preparation classes for both the GED and HiSET. Classes are available in-person, online or a mix of both. If you are interested in classes, check our Adult Education Program Directory to find the program nearest to you and learn more.
