During a recent conference where the Technical College of Georgia (TCSG) announced its student and instructor of the year, attendees were also treated to important messages about the value of apprenticeships in the Peach State. Adam Hawk, director of apprenticeships for TCSG’s Office of Workforce Development shared some impressive statistics regarding apprenticeships and the substantial return on investment for employers and employees alike.

There are more than 600 active apprentices, more than 170 employer partners and an excess of 100 career pathways for students. To name a few, apprentices benefit from an average 38 percent wage increase and career advancement opportunities while employers benefit from a more stable workforce with lower turnover rate, higher productivity and workers that are trained by their specific standards.
Hawk said, “A Registered Apprenticeship program is an industry-driven, high-quality career pathway where employers can develop and prepare their future workforce and individuals can obtain paid work experience with a mentor and receive wage increases, classroom instruction and a portable, nationally recognized credential.” He added, “In layman’s terms, TCSG’s apprenticeship programs is one of the best, most proven pathways to economic prosperity that our state has to offer.”
The TCSG and its 22 colleges represent the state’s largest network of registered apprenticeship sponsors. For more information on Apprentice Georgia or on apprenticeships in general, check out this short video or email apprenticeship@tcsg.edu.
