Accounting Technician – Accounts Payable (FT)


Albany Technical College seeks a well-qualified, highly motivated individual to fill the position of Accounting Technician for Accounts Payable.  Under general supervision of the Director of Accounting, the Accounting Technician will be responsible for the following major duties:

  • Reviews a wide range of source documents, such as purchase orders, vouchers, invoices, receipts, requisitions, travel documents and other forms for accuracy and completion;
  • Prepares, verifies, and corrects accounting and financial information on accounts payable vouchers, enters data into TeamWorks (PeopleSoft);
  • Reviews daily exception reports to resolve any errors in accounts payable;
  • Maintains vendor files and contacts vendors to resolve questions/conflicts;
  • Processes checks after printing, distributes, and prepares for mailing;
  • Audits travel expense statements for accuracy, authorization and compliance with state regulations;
  • Maintains all accounts payable files and documentation;
  • Assists Director with monthly accounts payable reconciliation;
  • Maintains tracking spreadsheets for recurring expenses for College;
  • Participates in cashier window backup rotation to include receiving and recording cash, check, and credit card transactions and recording transactions in student accounts system;
  • Participates in Bookstore peak book rush rotation to include assisting students with books and operating cash register.
  • Other duties or special projects as assigned.

The successful candidate must be a self-starter who is able to work independently with minimal supervision, is detail-oriented, organized, knowledgeable in the operation of computers with an emphasis in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, have good analytical skills and oral and written communication skills including interpersonal relations.  Knowledge of basic accounting principles is a plus.

Minimum Qualifications:  The candidate MUST possess a high school diploma or equivalent *AND* have one (1) year of experience in bookkeeping or accounting clerical work.

Preferred Qualifications:  An Associate’s Degree in Business, Accounting, or closely related field *AND* two (2) years of professional work-related experience in bookkeeping or accounting.

Physical Demands:  Work is typically performed in an office setting with intermittent sitting or walking in various settings.  Hand and finger motion will be used for data entry purposes.
