The Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) is seeking highly qualified applicants for their fulltime Curriculum Director for Public Safety Programs position in the Office of Technical Education.  The Curriculum Director will oversee and enhance our Criminal Justice Programs, Fire Science Programs and Law Enforcement Academies, ensuring that our curriculum meets academic standards within the 22 technical colleges.  This position will also work closely with the TCSG Department of Public Safety to ensure that the academies provide comprehensive, high-quality training programs that meet or exceed state and federal standards for law enforcement officers.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design, develop, and continuously improve curricula for criminal justice programs, fire science programs, and law enforcement programs, ensuring alignment with academic standards, industry requirements, and emerging trends
  • Manage the implementation and evaluation of academic programs, ensuring that they meet educational objectives and accreditation standards
  • Coordinate with Criminal Justice Program Directors, Fire Science Program Directors, and Law Enforcement Academy Directors to build enrollment and increase graduation and job placement rates.
  • Coordinate with the Curriculum Director for Allied Health to ensure appropriate alignment with paramedicine programs.
  • Assist with the development, implementation and maintenance of the new law enforcement academy curriculum
  • Maintain the program accreditations with relevant state and national accrediting bodies.
  • Ensure that all training programs and operations comply with state and federal laws, as well as departmental policies.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and training curricula that meet or exceed Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Council, Georgia Fire Academy, and Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Council (GSFTC) requirements.
  • Coordinate the curriculum program approval/revision process
  • Assist with the continuous review of Criminal Justice, Fire Science, and Law Enforcement Academy programs
  • Facilitate approval process for articulation agreements
  • Participate in meetings to define and set goals based on strategic direction of the agency or technical college and customer needs
  • Conduct regular evaluation of services provided and make adjustments as needed
  • Stay informed about advancements in criminal justice, fire science, and law enforcement, as well as up to date with policies, procedures, and state or federal laws that may impact department initiatives

  • Maintain excellent working relationships with and serves as a liaison to internal and external customers, including local law enforcement agencies; and

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree *and* Five (5) years of work-related experience in management of the defined departmental area
  • POST Certification

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in Criminal Justice, Public Safety, Education, or a related field *and* a minimum of Two (2) years of experience in curriculum development or related roles within criminal justice and law enforcement education
  • POST Instructor Certification (If not currently POST IT certified, the selected candidate must obtain certification within six months of employment.)

TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

  • Strong knowledge of curriculum design, instructional practices, and assessment strategies
  • Deep understanding of criminal justice systems, law enforcement practices, and educational methodologies
  • Proficient in the use of educational technology and learning management systems
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
  • Critical thinking and analysis
  • Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public; and
  • Decision making and problem-solving skills
