POSITION: Director of Adult Education – Special Programs

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Director of Adult Education Special Programs reports to the Dean of Adult Education and is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing special programs for Adult Basic Education (ABE), High School Equivalency (HSE), and English as a Second Language (ESL) students in adult education. The primary responsibility of the Director of Adult Education Special Programs is direct special projects for adult education programs and supervise online adjunct faculty and staff.

MAJOR DUTIES:

ADMINISTRATIVE

· Actively works with the Dean of Adult Education to ensure the consistent exercise of TCSG and college policies, procedures, rules, regulations, and guidelines across all adult education class sites.

· Collaborates with all Adult Education leaders and works in support of special projects and programs, including but not limited to Blackboard Online courses and supplemental distance education programs, IET/WPL, HSE testing, and Corrections classes.

· Utilizes GALIS to monitor data; advises faculty as necessary on GALIS data.

· Oversees online adult education offerings and technology associated with online offerings.

· Ensures quarterly integrated education and training (IET) and Workplace Literacy (WPL) offerings and oversees the development of Single Sets of Learning Objectives (SSLOs) for each.

· Coordinates with Directors of Adult Education Instruction to implement SSLOs in IET students’ academic classes.

· Accountable for objectives and outcomes related to Office of Adult Education annual targeted IET and WPL goals.

· Oversees the High School Equivalency (HSE) testing program and prepares the annual testing budget.

· Ensures equitable access to (HSE) testing services across the service delivery area (SDA) while adhering to the local testing budget.

· Develops and implements appropriate strategies for increasing the number of HSE completers.

· Works with the Dean of Adult Education, Directors, faculty, and others to develop and implement new initiatives related to the program.

· Develops an effective plan of action for running projects and initiatives that promote and support the goals of the program from inception to completion.

· Participates in grant application processes.

· Participates in and leads staff development and team conferences.

· Displays a high level of professional commitment to the work and its purpose.

· Proactively implements vision of the Dean of Adult Education.

SUPERVISORY

· Works with Human Resources personnel to coordinate new online adjunct faculty and staff hires; verifies appropriate qualifications.

· Provides instructional leadership, supervision, and support to assigned adjunct faculty (coaching, training, performance evaluations, etc.) within the organizational structure of the program.

· Makes expeditious and sound decisions on issues related to the performance of duties and responsibilities within the position’s authority and the organizational structure of the college.

· Conducts regular review and evaluation of online classroom instruction.

· Assists with and leads the professional development of staff.

· Promotes a professional, collaborative, and cooperative department culture.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

· Establishes positive and cooperative working relationships in the service delivery area.

· Works within the designated workforce development areas for the Service Delivery Area (SDA) to locate, coordinate, and arrange work place literacy classes.

· Promotes and supports quality adult literacy programs in the community.

OTHER DUTIES

· Establishes positive and cooperative working relationships in the department, college and community.

· Maintains an appropriate professional, community, and leadership presence, behavior, and image.

· Other responsibilities as directed by the Dean of Adult Education.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

· Baccalaureate Degree required in Education, Social Work, or Psychology or field of study closely related to the occupational field.

· Experience sufficient to understand the diverse objectives and functions of the subunits and students in the department in order to direct work, meaning three to five years of related experience.

· Possession of or ability to obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

· Master’s degree in Education, Social Work, or Psychology or field of study closely related to the occupational field.

· Three to five years of experience working as an instructor or administrator in an Adult Education setting.

· Experience writing and managing a competitive Adult Education grant.

· Proficient skills in Leadership, Technology Application, Interpersonal Relations, Organizational Skills, Written and Oral Presentation Skills

· Proactive, solution-oriented, independent leadership skills and experience

· Resides in one of Chattahoochee Technical College’s service area counties

SALARY/BENEFITS: $71,050.72 annually. Benefits include paid holidays, annual leave, and the State of Georgia Flexible Benefits Program. Please be aware that Chattahoochee Tech employees will be paid by direct deposit, unless exempted by the State Accounting Office based on “hardship” evidence provided by the employee.
