PRIMARY LOCATION: Newton / Rockdale /South DeKalb Campus
DESCRIPTION: Under general supervision, prepares lesson plans and teaches classroom instruction for credit courses in the School of Health, Education and Professionals.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: The EMS instructor is responsible for the training of EMTs and Paramedics specifically in regards to the classroom and clinical aspects of the program.  Additional duties include advising and mentoring students; recruiting students, arranging supportive services, developing instructional materials, assisting with job placement, and employment follow-up. The faculty must possess the ability to teach all phases of the Paramedic and Intermediate Emergency Medical Technician curriculum.

Instruction will include both lecture and laboratory activities and may involve Internet courses.  The successful candidate may also be required to teach other Health related courses, and will report to the Dean of the School of Health, Education and Professional Services.

To meet the needs of our students, the instructor will be required to be available to teach courses during the day, evening, and weekend hours.

 Associate’s degree and current Georgia licensure as a Paramedic or related field.

The following current and valid credentials in good standing are required and must be maintained during employment:

  • Level III EMS instructor license
  • Georgia Paramedic License
  • GA Driver License
  • Current BSL and ACLS Instructor Certification

All credentials must be provided for copying at the time of interview.


Five (5) or more years, within the last seven (7) of full-time, in-field work experience as an EMT or Paramedic or related field.  Experience must include the competencies, skills and knowledge levels the faculty will be expected to teach.

  • Licensed Georgia Paramedic (National Registry Certified)
  • Bachelor’s or higher from a national or regionally accredited college or university.

Experience in teaching/advising/mentoring college-level students with broad, diverse backgrounds is desired.  Knowledge of Blackboard (Learning Management System) is desirable.

salary/benefits: The salary range for this position is $48,000 – $55,000 and will be based upon education, experience and other qualifications. This is a full-time position with paid state holidays; accrued annual and sick leave; and the State of Georgia Flexible Benefits Program.
