POSITION: Financial Aid Veteran School Certifying Official (SCO) Specialist

POSITION DESCRIPTION: This position is responsible for performing professional and administrative duties associated with the delivery of traditional and veteran student financial aid services.

MAJOR DUTIES:

INTERFACE DUTIES

· Counsels and advises traditional and Veteran students and parents concerning financial aid options and the application process.

· Provides information regarding financial aid and resources available to traditional and veteran students

· Instructs students in correct procedures for completing applications and forms, submitting supporting documents and special requirements

· Refers complex problems to the Financial Aid Coordinator

· Participates in FA Outreach Veteran presentations and FA Veteran tables at events on and off campus

· Serves as POC for Veteran students and parents

· Responds to student inquiries via alpha-split

OPERATIONAL DUTIES

· Processes certifications for all military benefit programs

· Verifies Veteran enrollment and reports tuition and fees for students

· Maintains Veteran student records to include proper documents to show eligibility of student educational benefits

· Monitors each student’s schedule for the adding/dropping of classes and the impact of VA Benefits Payment and/or Overpayment

· Maintains training certification for Veteran School Certifying Officials while ensuring processes follow VA SCO handbook

· Collects and reviews financial aid forms and documents to determine completeness and eligibility of financial aid application

· Determines eligibility and counsels financial aid applicants using various systems including: Banner, CHECS, NSLDS, FPP, and Enrollment Manager

· Ensures compliance with all federal, state, veteran and institutional regulations

SPECIALIZED DUTIES (Performed as assigned)

· Primarily serves as School Certifying Official for Veteran Students

· Verification of student files based on submitted documents, making any necessary corrections.

· Reviews and process submitted paperwork to determine eligibility for all aid

· Works with students and other needed agencies to clear any discrepancies related to federal, state, and Veteran aid eligibility

· Performs other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Associate’s degree *and* Three (3) years of related work experience. Note: Experience may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• A bachelor’s degree in a course of study related to the occupational field

• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.

SALARY/BENEFITS: $45,301.59 annually. Benefits include paid holidays, annual leave, and the State of Georgia Flexible Benefits Program. Please be aware that Chattahoochee Tech employees will be paid by direct deposit, unless exempted by the State Accounting Office based on “hardship” evidence provided by the employee.

TELEWORK: Teleworking is permitted for this role up to 50% at the discretion of the Director of Financial Aid Operations.
