General Maintenance Technician, Full Time

Under general supervision, the General Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing skilled and semi-skilled work associated with the maintenance and repair of the college’s three (3) campuses facilities and grounds. Installs, maintains, repairs Electrical Systems. Installs, maintains, repairs commercial and residential HVAC systems. Including, but not limited to boilers, chillers, p-tacs, split systems and ductless systems. Installs, maintains, repairs refrigeration systems, including walk-in coolers, walk-in freezer, reach-in coolers, residential refrigerators. Installs, maintains, repairs, and renovated Plumbing system and hardware. Assist with renovation projects as assigned, carpentry, glazing, plumbing, and painting projects. Participates in the repair and maintenance of college equipment and vehicles. Participates in grounds maintenance activities, including installing and maintaining landscaping, applying herbicides and pesticides, and maintaining parking lots. Uses and maintains a variety of tools, materials, and equipment. Maintains required records, and logs. Coordinates the work of maintenance and custodial staff as directed by supervisor. Responds to emergency requests for repairs. May require on-call maintenance during evening, weekends, and holiday hours. Position is non-exempt. This position will require weekly traveling to the three (3) North Georgia Technical College campuses located in Clarkesville, Blairsville and Toccoa. Must have a Valid GA Driver License.


  • Knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials, and practices of building and grounds maintenance
  • Knowledge of safety guidelines, policies, and procedures
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and HVAC system maintenance and repair
  • Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs
  • Oral and written communications skills, skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public
  • Ability to read, interpret and apply construction plans, specifications, and blueprints
  • Must be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to, lifting heavy items (up to 50lbs unassisted), bending, standing, climbing, and walking.
  • Knowledge of chemicals (MSDS) to include how they are used and react when mixed

Full Time – 40 hours/week – 6:30am – 5:00pm Monday – Thursday

Physical Demands:

Ability to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to, lifting heavy items (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), bending, standing, climbing, and walking. Ability to withstand a variety of indoor and outdoor environmental conditions. Frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling; reaching above shoulder level; fine finger dexterity.


Minimum Qualifications: A high school diploma or equivalent *and* One (1) year of experience in a skilled trade or building maintenance.

Preferred Qualifications (in addition to minimum qualifications): HVAC diploma or associates degree, and/or Electrical diploma.
