Instructor – Clinical Coordinator Cardiovascular Technology

This job is a full time, benefited, FLSA exempt position in the Health Sciences Division that reports to the Dean of Health Sciences.

Salary: $69,680/yr

Minimum Qualifications( Minimum Qualifications 10607)

Associate’s degree in field and R – Current in one or more of the following: Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) OR Registered Cardiovascular Diagnostic Sonographer (RDCS) OR Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) and R – minimum TWO years in field experience

Preferred Qualifications:

In addition to the minimum qualifications, Prior experience with JRC-CVT accreditation preferred. Master’s degree in related field preferred. Prior instruction in a JRC-CVT accredited program and experience in curriculum development. Experience in teaching college-level courses in two-year colleges or degree-granting technical colleges. Experience in the course and curriculum development, demonstrated flexibility with the diverse student population and learning styles; demonstrated experience with a variety of teaching strategies including the use of advanced instructional technologies. Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work effectively with faculty, staff, students, and the community. Ability to teach in the classroom. Proficient in written and oral communication. Demonstrated occupational competency. Must be computer literate with the ability to use common software programs. Some experience with online instruction a plus.

Job Description Summary:

Under general supervision, prepares lesson plans for classroom, lab or clinical instruction for credited Cardiovascular Technology or Echocardiography courses at Gwinnett Technical College. Implements program curriculum to meet state, national and/or accreditation standards. Develops program and syllabi, goals, and objectives. Teaches face-to-face, hybrid, and online classes as needed to provide course delivery and scheduling options that promote student retention and program completion. Evaluates students’ progress in attaining goals and objectives. Requests and maintains supplies and equipment and prepares budget requests. Maintains program certification requirements, as appropriate. Prepares and maintains all required documentation and administrative reports. Attends staff development training, workshops, seminars and conferences. Ensures safety and security requirements are met in the training area. Meets with students, staff members and other educators to discuss students’ instructional programs and other issues. Assists with recruitment, retention and job placement efforts and participates in college and community activities.

Ensure safety and security requirements are met in the training area.

· Construct training modules, tools, materials, supplies and equipment to comply with local requirements for safety and security needs and in accordance with state and federal work safety standards.

· Ensure students are instructed in and follow all safety rules for operating equipment and using tools.

· Ensure classrooms and work areas are properly cleaned and maintained at all times.

· Maintain a secure training and work area that proves freedom of movement for students during the performance of work and training assignments and complies with the security requirements of the organization.

· Ensure work-related projects are successfully completed and that they meet industrial standards.

Maintains program certification requirements, as appropriate.

· Earns required number of CE credits to maintain ARDMS or CCI certification.

· Participates in education meetings, workshops, etc. as requested.

· Meet all required organizational and accreditation policies and guidelines.

· Assist in conducting a self-study of the program’s compliance with technical college, program and accreditation standards.

· Follow and adjust curriculum to meet state and national standards.

· Exhibit and model positive work ethics.

Performs other duties as assigned in the fulfillment of the needs, philosophy, and purpose of Gwinnett Technical College.

Duties/Responsibilities: Percentage of Time:

Coordinates and evaluates students’ progress in attaining goals and objectives

related to clinical assignments

· Observe and evaluate student progress in the clinical/practicum

environment

· Communicates students’ progress to student and appropriate personnel

and according to established guidelines.

· Accurately records pertinent information in students’ records as required.

· Schedule all students for clinical affiliations and practicums.

· Manage correspondence relative to affiliations.

· Orient students to their responsibilities toward the clinical education center

and the college.

· Promote communication between the centers, the college, and program

students; visit centers and students as often as practical.

· Act as a liaison between center and college to assist with student problems

and provide consultation.

· Develop the clinical affiliate and clinical faculty members.

· Review and evaluate present centers against standards for continued use.

· Manage the clinical competency system.

· Evaluates and grades student performance through the competency-based

education system used by the program. 40 %

· Edit and revise the competency-based education system used in the program.

Develops clinical program and course outlines, goals, and objectives. (Performed

· Prepares appropriate curricula, including non-traditional content and

methods to achieve the objectives and goals of students.

· Follows designated and approved lesson plan(s) using appropriate

techniques and aids.

· Participates in standing or ad hoc committee meetings relating to

curriculum development, extracurricular activities, and other technical

college-sponsored activities or programs as required.

· Prepares program reports for submission to the supervisor within specified

time frames of request.

· Maintains a presence on campus during regular business hours to be

available for meetings, department functions, and administrative tasks. 15%

Prepares lesson plans for classroom instruction. (Performed by all incumbents)

· Delivers effective individualized programs of instruction to class members.

· Ensures adherence to technical college and safety requirements in

classrooms and labs by following established procedures.

· Correctly assesses the educational needs and class progress of students.

· Selects and obtains appropriate educational materials for courses.

· Prepares reports on the current status of students in the program

indicating whether performance is aligned with performance indicators,

program goals, and progress schedule.

Ensures consistency in syllabi, lesson plans, tests, and other appropriate materials. 5%

Evaluates students’ progress in attaining goals and objectives. (Performed by all

· Establishes criteria and tests the students to measure each student’s

progress.

· Communicates students’ progress to student and appropriate personnel

and according to established guidelines.

· Accurately records pertinent information in students’ records as required. 10%

Requests and maintains supplies and equipment and prepares required budget

requests. (Performed by all incumbents)

· Submits correct supply and equipment budget requests as necessary per

established guidelines.

· Performs and maintains classroom inventory according to established

policies and procedures.

· Maintains an organized and proper supply of classroom instructional

materials.

· Promptly notifies the supervisor of defective equipment. 5%

Maintains program certification requirements, as appropriate. (Performed by all

· Attends a required number of hours of required training.

· Participates in education meetings, workshops, etc. as requested.

· Ensures certification meets all required organizational and accreditation

Meets with students, staff members, and other educators to discuss instructional

· Advises students on course selection and other pertinent matters

· Conducts office hours and is available on campus during regular business

hours to assist walk-in students as needed

· Actively participates in staff and faculty meetings as needed to discuss

students’ progress, problems, and/or programs.

· Serves as a mentor for adjunct faculty within the program area; is available

on campus for adjunct faculty who teach face-to-face or hybrid classes.

Assists with recruitment, retention, and job placement efforts. (Performed by all

· Actively recruit students for classes by explaining the training offered and

prepares a master schedule for departmental class offerings.

· Prepares orientation for new students using effective materials while

displaying a professional and courteous manner.
