PRIMARY LOCATION: DeKalb and Newton Campus
DESCRIPTION: This position requires teaching responsibilities for credit courses within the Medical Assisting Program.  May also include Dual Enrollment courses at their locations. Instruction will include both lecture and laboratory activities and may involve Internet classes. A flexible work schedule is necessary, as classes may be taught during day, evening, and Saturday periods. The instructor will report to the Dean, Health, Education and Professional Services.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITES: ·        Follows the syllabus for each course assigned based on accreditor and department criteria. The syllabus is to include learning objectives

·        Teaches the depth and scope of class materials as outlined in the syllabus and catalog and relates the instruction to careers and employer expectations

·        Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.

·        Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must possess a diploma from a regionally accredited college, university, or a specialized training school. All credentials must be maintained.  Appropriate diploma or degree must reflect the requirements of the College’s accrediting agency.

Must be a graduate of a medical assisting program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES).

Must be a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) credentialed by an organization accredited by NCCA.

Three or more years, within the last seven of full-time, in-field work experience in medical assisting, medical assisting education, or a related healthcare field. Experience must include the competencies, skills and knowledge levels the instructor will be expected to teach.

Must have at least 40 hours of experience in an ambulatory healthcare setting performing or observing administrative and clinical procedures performed by medical assistants.

An Associate’s degree is preferred in a health field. Experience in postsecondary and/or technical college teaching / advising / mentoring college-level students with broad, diverse backgrounds is desired. Certified by the American Heart Association to teach BLS for Health Care Providers.
salary/benefits: The salary range for this position is $1200 – $3375. Adjunct faculty members do not receive benefits and positions are temporary, scheduled based on class needs of the college. Adjunct Faculty will generally sign assignment acknowledgements which cover a single term at a time, and employment is not guaranteed. Georgia Defined Contributions and taxes will be deducted.
