POSITION: Police Lieutenant/Training Facilitator

· This is a full-time position.

· Employment is with Chattahoochee Technical College and not with an individual campus. All employees are subject to work relocation based on college needs.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: This position is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the administration of and directing the Campus Police Department Training and for supervising the day-to-day activities of assigned officers. The Lieutenant also serves as the training officer and is responsible for the development and training of students, faculty and staff as related to law enforcement training and procedures. The Lieutenant is responsible for supporting and ensuring compliance with accreditation requirements.

MAJOR DUTIES:

· Planning and organizing work

o Provides for the safety and security of students, staff, faculty, administrators, visitors and property of Chattahoochee Technical College.

o Assigns, plans and directs the activities of the Campus Police Department to meet the safety and security requirements of the college.

o Assists the Chief of Police or designee in preparing and recommending for approval accurate and complete training related budget information within an established time frame; supervises the purchase of training equipment.

o Coordinates campus coverages and communicates with dispatch and officers as necessary

o Maintains certifications as necessary to meet state requirements

o Maintains training files and records

o Assists the Chief of Police or designee in developing and implementing college police and security policies and procedures, including but not limited to legally carrying and discharging a weapon

o Responds to emergency and non-emergency calls for service.

· Communications

o Completes activity reports on an established basis; evaluates contents for completeness, accountability, neatness and compliance with rules and regulations.

o Provides advice concerning appropriate law enforcement response to incidents and violations of the law. Assists the Chief of Police or designee in consulting with to the administration in areas of Georgia Criminal Law and procedures; advises concerning the feasibility and appropriateness of seeking prosecution for given activities.

o Prepares and submits reports to meet federal, state, system and college level requirements.

· Interpersonal Skills

o Trains newly assigned officers in the daily operation of the DPS precinct office where they are assigned.

o Interacts effectively with students, faculty and staff

· Supervisory and Managerial Duties

o Directs and oversees the training methods of all officers.

o Serves on Behavior Intervention Team as DPS representative

o Monitors and supervises the activities of college personnel as well as campus police and security operations to ensure compliance with technical college rules and regulations, state and federal laws, and court directives.

o Reviews all reports, time card sheets, and payroll information for assigned campus officers

o Supervises the Sergeants in planning and coordinating the day-to-day operations and training of officers.

o Assists the Chief of Police or designee in preparing and recommending for approval accurate and complete training related budget information within an established time frame; supervises the purchase of training equipment.

o Ensures short- and long-term goals for the department’s training needs are accomplished and implements plans to reach the goals; monitors the pros and cons of the department’s training efforts to reach the goals.

o Measures the effectiveness of campus police operations in the delivery of routine and emergency response.

o Ensures compliance with accreditation requirements and works towards accreditation goals

o Attends meetings with local law enforcement and emergency management personnel.

o Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

· High School diploma and 10 years of paid work experience in public law enforcement 3 of which must have been equivalent to police sergeant or higher.

· Must have current and in good standing Georgia P.O.S.T. basic law enforcement certification.

· Must have possession of Georgia P.O.S.T. Departmental Training Officer certification or must be willing to obtain certification from Georgia P.O.S.T. within 12 months after appointment.

· Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

PREFERREFED QUALIFICATIONS:

· Hold or obtain Georgia POST training certification as general instructor, plus other additional certifications and/or willingness to obtain referenced certification within 12 months pending course availability

· Currently, or within the last year, working in a law enforcement training position/environment, sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse training objectives and functions of the subunits in the division/department in order to direct and coordinate training objectives within the division/department.

SALARY/BENEFITS: $56,453.38 annually. Benefits include paid holidays, annual leave, and the State of Georgia Flexible Benefits Program. Please be aware that all Chattahoochee Technical College employees must be paid by direct deposit, unless exempted by the State Accounting Office based on “hardship” evidence provided by the employee.
