Technical Support Specialist (FT)
Location: Dougherty County Campus
Albany Technical College seeks a well-qualified highly motivated individual to fill the position of Technical Support Specialist. Under general supervision, the Technical Support Specialist will process and respond to helpdesk calls from administrators, faculty and staff. Helpdesk calls will require installations, technical support and problem resolution to complex PC-based software used by a technical college. He/she will determine computer and/or network hardware and software problems. He/she will assist with the installation of fiber and copper cabling and terminate and test all network cabling. He/she will install Microsoft operating systems and applications software, maintain and repair computer network, workstations and peripheral equipment including performing troubleshooting functions. The Technical Support Specialist will research and investigate new technology products for PC networking, software and hardware products. He/she will communicate accurate information to department staff and outside entities. He/she may develop and conduct training programs and must be skilled in diagnosing and repairing desktop computer hardware and providing software support for various Windows based applications. The Technical Support Specialist must have experience with current Microsoft operating systems and applications, Apple devices, servers and software. He/she must have excellent communication and organizational skills, must be self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications: The candidate MUST possess an Associate’s Degree in Computer Information Systems or related fields *AND* have three (3) years or work related experience working in an IP based network environment.
NOTE: Experience may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis
Preferred Qualifications: The candidate MUST have working knowledge of network troubleshooting including Cisco devices is a plus. Working knowledge of network hardware. Experience in OS imaging, specifically Windows. Experience with Microsoft Active Directory for account maintenance, Microsoft 365 administrative and end-user support, Microsoft Azure administrative support. Able to perform well under pressure and promote a friendly demeaner to end-users. Must have a clean MVR and Class 2 driver’s license.
Physical Demands: The employee regularly lifts or moves objects of a light to medium weight. Work is typically performed in an office environment with intermittent sitting, standing, or walking in various settings. Full range of hand and finger motion may be utilized for data entry purposes.
