Nurse Re-entry Program Information

The Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG), with the support of the Georgia Board of Nursing (GBON), has developed four pathways to reenter the high-demand field of nursing in the state of Georgia. Our re-entry programs are designed to be a supportive and structured pathway to help licensed nurses return to professional practice. Whether you have taken time away for family, career exploration, or personal growth, our programs provide the education, hands on training and mentorship needed to refresh your skills, rebuild confidence and re-enter today’s evolving healthcare environment.

WHO DOES THIS APPLY TO?

• An RN or LPN licensed in Georgia who has not practiced nursing for a period of time and want to refresh their knowledge base and nursing skills in preparation to reenter the nursing profession in a clinical setting.
• RNs and LPNs who have been notified by the Georgia Board of Nursing that completing a Board approved re-entry program is required to reinstate their GA nursing license.
• RNs and LPNs who have an active nursing license in another state but need to complete a required Board approved reentry/refresher program to apply for a GA nursing license.

LPN & RN Nurse Re-Entry Program Application Process

TCSG has a dedicated Re-Entry Program team and streamlined program admission process to facilitate RN and LPN re-entrants in reaching their licensing goal. To be considered for enrollment, all applicants must complete the steps outlined below.

Step 2: Submit Required Documentation

Along with the completed application, applicants must submit the following documents:

• Deficiency Letter from the Georgia Board of Nursing (GBON) indicating nurse re‑entry eligibility
• Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support CPR Card (must be valid at the time of application and for a minimum of 6 months following submission)
• Current Georgia Jurisprudence Exam Certificate for the RN or LPN

Applications will not be reviewed unless all required documents are received.

Step 3: Application Review

Once the complete application packet is submitted, it will be reviewed to determine eligibility for enrollment. Applicants will be notified if they are approved to move forward in the program.

Applicants with active Consent Agreements or Consent Orders will need to disclose this information to the Nurse Re-Entry Program during the application process. Active Consent Agreements or Consent Orders may prohibit program participants from completing the Clinical Study Course. Learners must meet the site requirements to attend the assigned precepted clinical.

Program Fees & Enrollment Process

The total cost of the Nurse Re‑Entry Program is $2,000, payable in two phases:

Didactic Study Course

• Fee: $800
• Due: When the applicant is formally instructed to enroll in the Didactic Study Course

Clinical Study Course

• Fee: $1,200
• Due: When the applicant is formally instructed to enroll in the Clinical Study Course

Please note: Fees are due after official notification to enroll in each course phase. Learners will need an active credit or debit card to pay enrollment fees. Specific payment instructions will be provided with the official enrollment notification.

Additional Requirements for Participation in the Nurse Re-Entry Program

Documentation of the following items MUST be included with the re-entry application:

• Deficiency Letter from the Georgia Board of Nursing (GBON) indicating nurse re‑entry eligibility
• Current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers. (CPR certification date must be valid through the completion of the entire re-entry program. CPR certification with any other provider will NOT be accepted)
• Jurisprudence Exam Completion Certificate (required by the Georgia Board of Nursing. Refer to the Instructions for Submitting RN Reentry Proposal for specific details)

Documentation of the following items MUST be provided to the assigned participating college Clinical Coordinator before completion of the didactic portion of the re-entry program:

• TB Skin Test: 2 step TB/Negative QuantiFERON or TSpot test completed in past 12 months. If history of a positive TB skin test, then a chest x-ray within the past 12 months with results within normal limits. Learners will be required to provide updated negative test results if the provided documentation reaches the expiration date during enrollment in the re-entry program.
• MMR: 2 doses of MMR vaccination or documentation of positive Measles, Mumps, Rubella titers
• Tdap vaccination: administered within the past 10 years (Td alone is not sufficient)
• Varicella Vaccination: two doses or documented positive titer. History of disease is not accepted.
• Hepatitis B: 3 dose series or titer showing proof of immunity.
• Flu Vaccination: Current Flu vaccination (during respiratory illness season)
• Active Malpractice liability insurance: ($1,000,000 each incident, $4,000,000 aggregate) Provider of malpractice is learner’s choice. NSO, CM&F are frequently used options.
• Additional facility specific requirements, including uniforms, physical exam, proof of health insurance, drug and/or background screen, enrollment in electronic onboarding or clinical tracking system, equipment, textbooks, or supplies may be required at the learner’s expense.
• Background screening completed within the past 6 months from a vendor accepted by the clinical site. Please seek guidance from the Clinical Coordinator for vendor information.

Re-Entry Program Course Information

Didactic Study Course
The Didactic Study course is 40 hours of study. Progression through the course is self-paced. Once enrolled, learners are required to successfully complete the online didactic portion of the program within 4 weeks of the start date. The Didactic Study Course begins at the beginning of every month.

Clinical Study Course
The applicant is required to select their preferred re-entry program locations from the list of participating colleges during the application process. This participating college will identify a supporting clinical site in their designated service area. Learners should be prepared to travel up to 60 miles from the participating re-entry college to complete the clinical study course. Clinical Study is expected to be completed full-time with either an 8-, 10-, or 12-hour shift schedule. Shift schedules are determined by the clinical site location and assigned clinical preceptor.

The Re-Entry Program Clinical Study Course is dependent upon completing the required form and receiving approval from the GBON, including issuance of a temporary permit. The Re-entry Program does not control the review timeline or final determination of GBON. Learners cannot begin the clinical study portion of the Re-Entry Program until a temporary permit has been issued by GBON. Once issued, the temporary permit is valid for six months.
