TCSG Dual Achievement Program

The Dual Achievement Program is another path toward high school graduation that allows students to earn a high school diploma at a Technical College System of Georgia High School Academy. Students will complete both high school (if needed) and college course work at a TCSG High School Academy. Students will graduate high school with a high school diploma and college credentials.

What is the Dual Achievement Program?

The Dual Achievement Program offers qualified students a path to high school graduation through one of the Technical College System of Georgia’s Academies.
Students in the program simultaneously earn a high school diploma (awarded by a TCSG Technical College, and one of the following):

2 Technical College Certificates of Credit
Technical Diploma
Associate Degree

The high school diploma is a recognized and accredited high school diploma – just like earned from a traditional high school.

Who is a good candidate for the Dual Achievement Program?

The Dual Achievement Program serves students that are seeking a different environment away from a traditional high school. If you are a student (or work with a student) that is unhappy with their current learning environment and has expressed a desire to withdraw or has already made the decision to withdraw, the Dual Achievement Program may be a good fit for you.

The Academies at TCSG institutions provide students with the opportunity to achieve personal and professional success. Our academic programs are built to prepare students for sustainable employment with hands-on learning and personal enrichment.
The Dual Achievement Program is ideal for students seeking a new environment to complete their high school course requirements while earning college credentials to prepare them for in-demand careers.

Are there eligibility requirements?

Students must be age 16-21
Students withdraw from their high school or home school program and provide proof of withdrawal.
Students must submit an official copy of their high school transcript.
Students must have completed and earned credit for 6 of the 9 required high school courses (2-English, 2-Math, 2-Science, 2-Social Studies, 1-Health/PE).

Students must sign a DAP waiver

How much does it cost?

The Dual Achievement Program is low or zero cost to the student. Students may take advantage of Dual Enrollment funding to have all or almost all of their tuition paid for.

How does Dual Achievement work?

Students complete any remaining required high school courses, which are taught by technical college faculty. These self-paced courses are available online and/or blended, with resources available at the TCSG Academy to help the students achieve success.
Before graduation, students must successfully complete any remaining required high school courses and complete one of the following Technical College Academy’s Credentials:
- 2 TCCs
- Technical Diploma
- Associate Degree
Most of these college courses are hands-on and all are career focused.
All Dual Achievement Program students have access to the same support resources as other students, such as success and career advisors and technical support.

Will students withdrawing from their base high school to participate in the Dual Achievement Program be considered high school dropouts?

No, students will be considered transfer students. DAP students are students transferring from their high school into the Dual Achievement Program at a TCSG Academy.
The school district has a specific code to use to transfer the students into a TCSG Academy: 07- Transfer to Technical College.

How is Dual Achievement different from Accelerated Career?

Dual Achievement is different from Accelerated Career because Accelerated Career students must take all 9 high school courses at their base high school.
- Dual Achievement students can take up to 3 of those required high school courses at a TCSG Academy.
The high school diplomas are awarded differently.
- Accelerated Career students receive a high school diploma from their base high school.
- Dual Achievement students are awarded a high school diploma from the TCSG Academy
Dual Achievement students must be transferred from their high school or home school and must have completed 6 of the 9 required high school courses (2-English, 2-Math, 2-Science, 2-Social Studies, 1-Health/PE).
Dual Achievement students are not factored into CCRPI and test scores for their previous high school or district.
Accelerated Career students are still enrolled in their base high school and may participate in extra-curricular activities, combined with the college experience.
- Dual Achievement students are completely withdrawn from the high school.

For Students & Parents

The Dual Achievement Program is another path toward high school graduation. Students will complete high school (if needed) and college coursework in the DAP program and upon completion of that coursework, will earn a high school diploma. The high school diploma earned through the Dual Achievement Program is a fully accredited high school diploma.

In order to be admitted to the Dual Achievement Program, students must be age 16-21, withdraw from their high school or home school program and provide proof of withdrawal, submit an official copy of their high school transcript and must have completed and earned credit for 6 of the 9 required high school courses (2-English, 2-Math, 2-Science, 2-Social Studies, 1-Health/PE).

Students may take any remaining high school courses with the Dual Achievement Program while also earning a college credential. Students must earn either two technical certificates of credit or a diploma or an associate degree.

Once students have completed their high school and college coursework, they will graduate with a high school diploma.

For Counselors

Students interested in participating in the Dual Achievement Program will formally withdraw from their base high school and transfer to a TCSG Academy. Students will not be counted as dropouts. Counselors and registrars will use code 7: transfer to TCSG Dual Achievement when withdrawing students from their high school. Once a student enrolls in the Dual Achievement Program, counselors at the TCSG Academies are responsible for their high school graduation requirements; the TCSG Academy will award their high school diploma.

Funding Information

College courses are assessed for tuition, fees, and textbooks; however, students may utilize Dual Enrollment funding to assist with the amount owed. Often students taking college courses and utilizing Dual Enrollment funding pay nothing. If Dual Achievement Program students do have a balance after Dual Enrollment funding is applied to their account, specific Academies may have additional funding available to assist students with the rest of their balance. If a student runs out of Dual Enrollment funding, the student may be able to use HOPE Grant and HOPE Career Grant.
