Industry Ready Logo

The Strengthening Community Colleges Grant, awarded through the US Department of Labor, aims to build the capacity of community colleges to meet local and regional labor market demands for a skilled workforce. It is a systems change grant that is housed at Savannah Technical College, in Savannah, GA.

In Georgia, “changing the system” has meant reinventing how we train students in three key industry sectors: healthcare, manufacturing/logistics, and IT. Using advanced educational tools in the classroom, in courses which feature digital badges and industry-leading micro-credentials, we’re helping our students excel in the 21st century job market.

And we’re helping students gain the skills they need quickly. We recognize that job-ready candidates benefit from targeted instruction which blends cutting edge technology, soft-skill training, exposure to employers, and industry defined skills and competencies in short, manageable packages that provide Georgians with life-changing career upgrades in as little as 4 to 6 weeks.

Students who participate in a 4 week “Fast Track” course will receive a digital badge (as well as associated industry micro-credentials) upon successful completion. These stackable course badges sit within well-defined and visual learning pathways that illuminate additional courses, career goals, and technical certificate, diploma, and degree trajectories. TCSG students are able to see course-level badges as stepping stones to their educational and career goals, offering encouragement to those in progress and inspiration for those determining their next steps.
