GEORGIA OPPORTUNITIES START HERE

Data Management

The Data Management sections provide guidance, forms, and resources for local program staff working with reporting and data entry. Adult Education programs in Georgia are responsible for collecting and managing data as part of the Federal National Reporting System (NRS) and complying with State policies for data quality and integrity.

Research

The Research section provides academic research, policy briefs, and public data related to the Office of Adult Education’s work. Georgia’s Office of Adult Education partners with the Adult Literacy Research Center and Georgia Policy Labs to better understand the barriers, successes, and pathways of our students. Stakeholders can use the resources on this page to inform policy and practice.

For questions or more information on Data Management and Research, please contact Jackson Lilly, Director of Research and Impact, jlilly@tcsg.edu.

GALIS

The Georgia Adult Learners Information System (GALIS) is Georgia’s Adult Education MIS. It is maintained by the Technical College System of Georgia and managed by the Office of Adult Education and a data management team at each local adult education provider.

Forms and Resources

Training

Local adult education personnel can access data management training, materials, and resources through the “GALIS and Data Managers” organization in Adult Education’s Blackboard portal, which is located at https://adultedgo.blackboard.com. “GALIS and Data Managers” is available for self-enrollment to all OAE-funded Adult Education program personnel with an AdultEdGo Blackboard account. Contact your Blackboard sub-administrator if you need assistance with your Blackboard account or self-enrollment

Georgia Partnership for Adult Education Research

As a result of funding from the Institute of Education Sciences*, the Georgia Office of Adult Education (GOAE) and Georgia State University’s Adult Literacy Research Center (ALRC) have developed a partnership called the Georgia Partnership for Adult Education and Research (GPAER). The purpose of the GPAER is to conduct exploratory research on factors that influence adults’ participation and success in Georgia’s adult education programs. The GPAER aims to bridge research and practice by helping the GOAE to analyze collected data in order to improve Georgia’s adult education outcomes. Specifically, the GPAER will examine site-, teacher-, and student-level factors and estimate how the various factors predict and interact with each other to influence retention rates and learner gains for adult education students in Georgia. The GPAER has also convened an Advisory Board of practitioners and researchers to provide a practical context for the research plans and findings.

 Research Questions:
1. Which site-, teacher-, and student-level factors emerge as most predictive of retention rates and learners gains in adult education sites across the state of Georgia?
2. Do these site-, teacher-, and student-level interact with each other to influence retention and learner gains in adult education sites across the state of Georgia?
3. How can we qualitatively define “higher” and “lower” performance sites based on site-, teacher-, and student-level predictors of retention and learner gains identified from our quantitative analyses?

Currently, the GPAER has submitted preliminary data requests and held two Advisory Board meetings.

The GOAE will publish research findings and results on this page. If you have questions in the meantime, please contact the Director of Research and Impact, Jackson Lilly, at jlilly@tcsg.edu.

Georgia Policy Labs

The Georgia Policy Labs, in the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies at Georgia State University, use data and science to find evidence-based solutions that efficiently and effectively address the needs of children, students, and families. They work with government partners, school districts, and community organizations to identify successful programs and policies, create and test innovative policy solutions, and help scale up innovations with the greatest potential to improve lives.
