Job Description:

Atlanta Technical College (ATC) is seeking highly qualified applicants for its Adjunct Instructor (Commercial Truck Driving) position in the Industrial & Transportation Technology department of the Academic & Student Affairs division.  This position is located at Atlanta Tech’s Main campus just south of Downtown Atlanta.

Under the general supervision of the Dean of Industrial & Transportation Technology division, the Adjunct Instructor (Commercial Truck Driving) position requires a passion, demonstrated by experience, for effective teaching and advisement of diverse students.  The Adjunct Instructor (CDL) provides professional instruction to students based on an approved course syllabus; and ensures that desired course outcomes meet the stated objectives, as well as prepares curriculum and syllabus for coursework taught.  Compensation for this course is $2,000.00 per 3-credit hours course.

Duties and responsibilities include, but may not be limited to, the following:

  • Teachcommercial truck driving regulations, preparing logs, pre-tripping, backing and over-the-road maneuvers.
  • Maintain student progressrecords.
  • Assist students with scheduling DMV testdates.
  • Transporting students to and from the testsite.
  • Reporting truck maintenance requests in a timelymanner.
  • Prioritizing safety at all times and teaching students to do thesame.
  • Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communicationskills.
  • Must maintain appropriate grading and assessment documentation in a confidential manner.
  • Mustsubmit grades and other reports in a timely manner.
  • Mustmaintain regular and punctual work attendance.
  • Perform additional duties, as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Must possess and demonstrate a High School Diploma or equivalent AND the following:

  • Valid commercial truck driving (CTD) license.
  • Atleast three years over the road_(OTR) experience.
  • Mustpossess an updated medical card.
  • Be familiarwith DOT regulations governing commercial  trucking.
  • Be able to teach: (1) Pre-trip, (2) Backing maneuvers, (3) on a 10-speed manual 53-ft commercial truck.
  • Must pass pre-employment DOT drug and alcohol screening.
  • Occupationalexperience must meet the current requirements of the appropriate licensing board for the area of instruction.
  • Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communicationskills.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference may be given to candidates who, in addition to meeting the minimum requirements, possess and demonstrate the following:

  • Associate’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university incommercial truck driving.
  • Five (5)or more years of work-related experience including the competencies, skills and knowledge levels included in the CTD instructional program.
  • Ability to think multi-task, quickly and independently.
