Job Description:

Atlanta Technical College (ATC) is seeking highly qualified applicants for its Adjunct GED / HSE Instructor, Corrections (Part-Time) position in the Adult Education department in the Academic & Student Affairs division.  This position is located at the Metro Re-Entry Facility just south-east of Downtown Atlanta.

Under general supervision of the Dean of Adult Education and the program coordinator, the Adjunct GED / HSE Instructor (Corrections) provides instruction to students.  This is a part-time position, and requires a passion, demonstrated by experience, for the effective teaching and advisement of diverse students plus excellent oral and written communication skills and demonstrated commitment to the college’s mission.

Duties and responsibilities include, but may not be limited to, the following:

  • Utilizepre-test scores (DRC) to develop targeted instruction for students.
  • DeviseSLPs for all students based on pre-test scores and prepare students for post-testing.
  • Utilize and assign online resources accordingly to support skill proficiency and test preparation (Aztec, Essential Ed suite, etc.).
  • TeachAdult Education classes that consist of reading, math, science, social studies, and/or language skills based on the individualized learning needs of students.
  • Delivereffective Adult Education instruction using standard based lessons.
  • Plan,develop and implement lessons that require the use of higher order thinking skills.

Complete and maintain appropriate attendance and assessment records and ensure timely submission (daily) of data for NRS input.

  • Evaluate students’ ongoingprogress and performance in attaining goals and objectives and document in GAUS.
  • Communicatewith appropriate staff/faculty for students’ testing needs in a timely manner.
  • Review post-test scores,practice test scores and GED/HiSET test scores.
  • Coordinate andprovide appropriate student referrals for IETs, wrap around service, HSE credential scholarships and testing and transition services; collaborate with the leadership team (Data Manager, Instructional and Transition Coordinators) for extenuating circumstances.
  • Monitorstudent data weekly (GAUS).

Monitor SLPs and asynchronous work.

  • Promote the adult education program to public andprivate organizations through the Service Delivery Area of the college.
  • Participatein the EAGLE competition.
  • Plan,organize and participate in staff development and team conferences.
  • Provideeffective classroom management that enhances student learning.
  • Demonstrateteamwork, customer service and organizational commitment.
  • Assistwith recruitment and retention activities.
  • Support the mission and vision of the college, program and TCSG; and
  • Perform additional duties, as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must possess and demonstrate the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university in Adult Education or a closely related field ANDSix (6) months of related work experience.
  • Good decision-making and problem-solving skills, as well as skilled in working with the general public with the ability to multi-task, perform administrative duties for class management.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Teach all four subjects (Reading/Language Arts/Math/Science/Social Studies)
  • Computer skills and knowledge of software and internet use.
  • Ability to develop student learning plans and instructional lesson plans.
