Job Title: Database and Systems Administrator

Job Description:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Database and Systems Administrator.  Your duties will encompass data integrity and database security, job submission operations, Banner printing maintenance, logging, standard practices compliance, troubleshooting technical issues, and familiarity with functional (end user) processes. Additionally, you will interact with the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) and third-party vendors to resolve local and third-party product issues.

Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinate the scheduling of downtime for upgrades, service maintenance, and troubleshooting to ensure minimal disruption to system availability. Collaborate with local and third-party vendors during project implementation, ensuring effective communication and timely resolution of technical issues.
  2. Serve as the first point of contact for receiving and submitting help desk tickets, efficiently resolving problems, and escalating issues when necessary. Act as the technical consultant for new initiatives related to Banner and Banner add-ons, providing expertise and guidance on technical aspects.
  3. Communicate effectively with staff, Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG), and vendors to ensure smooth collaboration and project success.
  4. Provide technical support for Banner and third-party Banner integrated products such as Xtender, Campus Logic, and SoftDocs, focusing on upgrading and maintaining the non-database portions of these products. Manage Banner Security and Active Directory by creating, removing, and maintaining user accounts, security groups, and object access.
  5. Write and troubleshoot programs for the maintenance of school systems, including data transfers between dissimilar systems, report writing, data extraction and manipulation, and automation of file transfers and scheduled daily process operations.
  6. Maintain the school’s primary web server, as well as secondary public-facing servers, including the underlying operating system (Apache, Tomcat and Windows IIS) and database (MS Access and Oracle SQL).
  7. Proficiency in the following operating systems: Windows Server, Ubuntu, Red Hat, CentOS, RHEL.
  8. Utilize programming languages such as SQL, HTML, Bash shell scripting, JavaScript, PHP, Perl, Java, Cold Fusion, and Python.
  9. Manage Domain Name Service (DNS) entries for machines and IP addressing schemes to ensure accurate network connectivity. Possess knowledge of email transport, network protocols, and network connection troubleshooting tools to diagnose and resolve connectivity issues.
  10. Provide end-user support for printers, scanners, SSH shell, and SFTP file transfer products used in the Banner system.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in a computer-related field or equivalent work experience.
  • 2-4 year’s SQL experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a computer-related field is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of computer systems, software applications, and programming languages.
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot technical issues effectively.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Adaptability to changing technologies and ability to learn new tools quickly.
  • Prior experience in a related field or relevant work experience is highly desirable.
  • Industry certifications (e.g., CompTIA, Microsoft, Cisco) are a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks efficiently with attention to detail.
