Job Description:
Atlanta Technical College (ATC) is seeking highly qualified applicants for its Veterans Affairs Specialist position in the Division of Academic and Student Affairs. This position is located on Atlanta Technical College’s main campus, just South of Downtown Atlanta.
Under the general supervision of the Division of Academic and Student Affairs, The Veterans Affairs Specialist serves as the lead point of contact in the certification of Veteran’s Administration (VA) educational benefits. The Certifying Official provides information to students, prospective students, parents, family members, and community members about VA educational benefits and application requirements, deadlines, and eligibility requirements.
Job duties include but may not be limited to the following:
- Collectsand reviews veteran affairs and internal applications to determine completeness and
- Participatein veteran student orientation and information
- Determines thestatus of veteran applicants using various software
- Processesapplications and corrections, tracks documents, and generates
- Developand transmit outreach
- Requestsadditional information for incomplete or inconsistent applications to perform accurate
- Monitors SAPstatus for veteran
- Recruitveteran students to participate in the Veteran’s
- Assist withenrollment and retention of all military, veterans, and dependents of service members by certifying VA educational benefits in a timely manner.
- Counseling eligible VA students on all factors that have a potential impact on VA educationalbenefits; including, but not limited to successful academic progress (SAP), credit hour requirements, changes to student schedules, and location of training or
- Providing necessary correspondenceto eligible VA students regarding updates to VA educational benefits, as well as changes to college processes and procedures.
- Process military-connectedstudent codes and information in Ellucian Banner and Enrollment Manager
- Assist TheOffice of Student Accounts department to identify students who are eligible for VA educational benefits and assist with the set-up of special billing and debt
- Generating and managing required reports and documentation, in accordance with State Approving Agency (SAA) policy and audit
- Must successfully complete S. Department of Veterans Affairs Online School Official Training within 30 daysof hire; and
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must possess and demonstrate an Associate degree AND three (3) or more years of related work experience.
NOTE: Experience may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preference may be considered for candidates who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, possess and demonstrate the following:
- Bachelor’sdegree or higher AND four (4) or more years of related work
- At leastone year of work experience as a VA School Certifying Official working with veterans, active duty, and
- EnrollmentManager and Ellucian Banner
- Knowledgeof Department of Veteran Affairs operations, policies, and
- Abilityto communicate effectively both orally and in writing; interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
- Experiencein delivering excellent, professional customer service, organization, and attention to detai
- Abilityto research, identify and resolve
- Experienceworking with adult learners in a college or military settin
- Demonstratesa positive, inclusive, and welcoming
- Abilityto work independently and
- Proficientin Microsoft Office
