Instructional Support
Quality instruction is the key component in a successful adult education program. This page includes information and links to support your understanding of adult education instruction and the resources available to you.
Adult Basic Education (ABE)
Adult Basic Education (ABE) provides foundational skills in the areas of Reading, Writing, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Students’ improvement in their core academic skills can help them prepare for a high school equivalency test, like the GED® or HiSET®, increase their employability, and provide a pathway for the pursuit of postsecondary education and training.
English-as-a-Second Language (ESL)
English-as-a-Second Language (ESL) is an area of academic practice that teaches the four domains: reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Students are able to improve their English skills to benefit their workplaces, families, and communities.
Integrated English Literacy and Civics Education (IELCE)
IELCE combines English language instruction (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) with civics, where students learn the responsibilities of citizenship, civic participation, and how to engage in community life. IELCE students also have the opportunity to participate in workforce training through Integrated Education and Training (IET) classes.
